If you are visiting the Loire Valley and Cointreau, you must visit Combier http://www.combier.fr/anglais/default.htm in Saumur. I am told, and believe it to be true, that is where the making of liquers really started and Cointreau later took the recipe and set up in Angers. The dried orange peeel was brought up the River Loire on the traditinal barques which was the main method of transportation in the 1850s.

Combier make a fantastic Triple Sec and their reknowned Royal Combier, plus a huge selection of liquers - all available to taste!
